Where the Money Goes

Every penny of profit from Caring Christmas Trees goes right back into the work of Bethany Christian Trust, helping to fund our vital, lifesaving work throughout the winter.

Founded in 1983 as a grassroots charity in Leith, Bethany Christian Trust now supports over 7,000 people across Scotland, tackling the root causes and direct effects of homelessness.

Our services focus on Homelessness Prevention, Crisis Intervention and Housing with Support, alleviating the suffering and meeting the long term needs of people facing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.

By purchasing a Caring Christmas Tree, you are helping to fund operations this winter such as:

Homelessness Prevention

Social isolation is one of the major factors that can lead to homelessness. We have teams of community workers who are adapting their work to ensure that anyone experiencing loneliness can find a place or a person to connect with during the winter.

Crisis Intervention

We provide medium term, specialised supported accommodation for people recovering from substance abuse, younger people who have experienced homelessness, and men and women who have found themselves in desperate situations. We also run a Care Van project, which offers food and support to people in crisis on the streets of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth.

Housing and Support

We provide focused, one-to-one support to help newly rehoused people sustain their tenancies. We offer mentorship and guidance on issues such as financial planning, employment and more. We want people to feel secure in their homes in all seasons.

Additionally, Gateway provides households with furniture and basic home goods as they take up a new council tenancy in Edinburgh.

A special note about the Welcome Centre

In previous years, the funds raised by Caring Christmas Trees directly supported our winter emergency overnight accommodation. Given the scale of the Welcome Centre project, we seek a wide range of financial support for this service, including our Buy a Bed campaign. All the proceeds raised through Caring Christmas Trees now go directly to our other winter work, as detailed above. The Rapid Re-Accommodation Welcome Centre is held in an Edinburgh hotel for anyone who would otherwise be sleeping rough. Guests can then get connected to other services in the city with the aim of rapid re-accommodation and longer term solutions.
